Hello! I am Jennifer Simmons, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Connecticut. I am also a nationally board certificated counselor and a certified School Counselor. I have a master's degree in Counseling from Central Connecticut State University and a bachelor's degree in Psychology, Mental Health from Southern Connecticut State University. I have 10 years of counseling experience and have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, trauma, family conflicts, grief and loss, parenting issues, and college and career planning.
My goal as a counselor is always to provide a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment. I see my role as a counselor as someone who meets my clients where they are and helps guide them to where they want to be through empathy and unconditional positive regard. Every person I work with is unique in their needs and my theoretical orientation is an integrated approach that includes a humanistic person-centered foundation and cognitive behavioral therapy to meet the needs of the whole person. I like to include mindfulness practices into my sessions with clients when possible as well.
My counseling experience has centered around working in large urban cities with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds. I welcome folks from all walks of life, backgrounds, orientations, identities, and religions. I consider myself an open-minded, ethical, and compassionate counselor.
I live in central Connecticut with my husband and two children. I love being creative, reading and cats.
